Paxil (Paroxetine) is a SSRI prescription medication designed to treat depression and anxiety. But Paxil has come under serious scrutiny for its devastating side effects from psychiatric illness (akathesia, depression and suicide) to birth defects. Women of childbearing age should not be prescribed Paxil since it has been shown that this drug increases the risk for birth defects, particularly heart defects, when women take it during the first three months of pregnancy. Glaxo/Smith/Kline Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Paxil, failed to warn doctors of the potentially serious side effects of this drug while aggressively marketing the product to the public. Because of corporate greed, unknowing consumers and their children, have been put at risk of harm and serious side effects. Here at the Law Offices of Brian D. Witzer we have experience litigating complex pharmaceutical cases that result in birth defects.
